Being a Pastel Artist living in South East Cornwall where I have lived for nearly 40 years, I am surrounded by natural beauty. I have always been drawn to the sea and my pastel paintings and sketches are inspired by but not limited to the fabulous coastline and landscape of the west country which frequently involves travelling around gathering inspiration for my work.
Though much of my work has been created in my studio, I am moving towards working plein air because although photo reference is a useful tool, it can not be compared to the first hand experience of life. My hope is that this will be reflected in my future works.
Balancing art with life and earning a sustainable living has meant that I have only exhibited three times. In the late 80's at the Claremont Hotel in Polperro, at the Wharf in Tavistock in 2015 and at the Ashtorre Rock on Saltash Waterside in 2016. More recently, my work was part of a joint exhibition at Saltwalls Gallery in Newquay with 20% of sales proceeds being donated to Blood Cancer research. From 8th June to 2nd July 2022 my work was represented in an exhibition titled "Cornish Perspectives" at Thompson's Gallery in London.
I came third and then second in two of the Pastel Guild of Europe monthly "Get Dusty" competitions in 2020 and recently came first in the Landscape / Seascape category of the annual PGE 2020 Open Competition which was open to International entries. The Landscape / Seascape category was judged by Internationally Acclaimed artist, "Tony Allain PS, ARSMA, PSA, MC-IAPS, MPANZ". In September 2021 my painting, "First snow above Postbridge, Dartmoor" came first in The Pastel Guild of Europe September Get Dusty Competition with a theme of "Weather" Judged by Bruce A. Gomez.
I am a Signature member of The Pastel Guild of Europe which I joined to become part of an active community of artists. I am also the designer and editor of the quarterly Scribbler magazine for the PGE which is distributed to all members.
In October 2021 I became an associate member of the Pastel Society of America.

About Plagiarism
Artist's put a lot of time and effort into producing their work, each and every piece of work is a part of their life, their emotions and inspiration. When someone takes an artist's work and attempts to copy it and promote it as their own is about as low as they can go and deprives artists who can ill afford it of income and recognition. It is theft.
Artists often go for long periods with no income, their materials are very expensive and they need the support of people who appreciate their genuine creative expression in order to continue. If you see obvious copy's of my or any other artists work, please tell us who and where so that we can issue a cease and desist notice or even persue them via legal channels.
I mention this because it has happened to several of my fellow artist friends and myself in the recent past.
